Yo-yo Review: Atmosphere

Sunday, August 15th, 2010

“What’s your favorite YoyoJam bi-metal?”

Ask this question to a few yo-yo players and often you’d hear names like “Speeder”, “Hitman”, and of course, “Dark Magic”.

Though probably not a familiar yo-yo to many of our local players, the Atmosphere would be another yo-yo worth considering, to find out more, read on!

Yoyo Review: Duncan Hugo Z Hor

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

It’s been awhile since we last posted a review article on this website, and to kick off the beginning of August (Well, end of July), Spinworkx takes a closer look at one of the most well known Screaming Eagle yo-yos since the Mayhem.

First made famous when it debut in the Czech Republic, Duncan soon saw the potential in this metal yo-yo that came from humble beginnings and decided to give it the professional status it deserves.

Yoyo Review: Duncan Freehand 2 - Plastic isn’t dead!

Saturday, June 26th, 2010

We all now know that the high-end metal yo-yo industry is more saturated than ever. Gone are the days where we would see 1 metal bring released for every 3-4 plastic yo-yos made. Nowadays, the industry has changed, with more people having access to aluminum and machining tools becoming more affordable than plastic molds, metal yo-yos are popping up almost every other week, while plastics now take close to 1-2 months to make an appearance!

The 2009 edition Duncan Freehand 2

Obviously there are a lot of good things to say about the recent releases of metal yo-yos in the market, both in terms of quality, affordability, and performance…but that does not mean that plastics are in any way bad at all.

With companies like YoyoFactory pushing the limits of the plastic yo-yo with their “Death To Metal” campaign, and Duncan recently investing their R&D into the new Freehand 2 and other projects, which we hear is extremely promising, we take a step back, and took out a plastic from our stash, gave it to two of the best Single A players in Singapore, and see what they thought about it.

Featured Yo-Yo Review: YoyoFactory SuperStar

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Back in 2008, when we first heard about a yo-yo that could maintain its horizontal balance without tipping easily, we were pretty skeptical. We had to see it for ourselves to believe that this was possible. Upon the arrival of this yo-yo to our store, we whipped one out and gave it a spin.

We were immediately hooked.

The SuperStar, possibly the second most popular metal to roll of YoyoFactorys product line

This yo-yo we are referring to, of course, is the YoyoFactory SuperStar, one of the most popular yo-yo to roll off YoyoFactory’s product line.

Today, we have taken this mighty beast out for a second test run, to see what makes it the second most popular yo-yo next to YoyoFactory’s 888.

The Underrated Eagle: Vendetta Yo-Yo Review

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

So we’ve been hearing loads of positive reviews about Duncan’s Screaming Eagle series, how the Mayhem proved to be a formidable player even though it sported a smaller bearing compared to the more popular large size bearings in most high end metals…or how the Diversion is great for 1A and 3A trick, as proven by players such as Kohta Watanabe of Duncan Crew Japan and Jason Kao from Taiwan. Even the Momentum and Hugo Z Hor have been receiving tonnes of praises for their performance in the high end metal category.

Duncans Vendetta, the lesser eagle?

Duncan's Vendetta, the "lesser" eagle?

So what bout the Vendetta? With so little talk surrounding the Vendetta, some might start to think that it isn’t as good a performer as the others of the SE range.

Our sales report…however…beg to differ…

Spinworkx Yo-Yo Feature: YoyoFactory’s 888x (Video Inside!)

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

To our many long time readers and players, all of you would have been familiar with the 888 by YoyoFactory, a product that took the world by storm a few years back when Yuuki Spencer used it to win the World Yoyo Contest back in 2007.

YoyoFactorys 888x, probably the most influential metal yo-yo ever known in the yoing community

YoyoFactory's 888x, probably the most influential metal yo-yo ever known in the yoing community

So we’ve done a comparison article on the yo-yo back in 2009 but we never got about reviewing them. This week’s article looks at the 888x by YoyoFactory, and sees what makes this yo-yo such a good performer, and one of the most highly sought after metal yo-yos in the market even till this day.

Ricerocket Mods Rice Stacks *updated info*

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

For those of you who own Ricestacks from Ricerocket Mods, manufacturer Chris Rice would like to inform all customers who have supported his product about a slight modification needed regarding the Rice Stacks for PGM 2.0s.

“The PGM v2 (only) have a slightly different stack set up.  The dice stacks may require a slight modification to work properly only on the PGM V2.  It is a fix most folks can do themselves.  It consists basically of sanding down the bottom a little bit for clearance.”

For those of you who have had problems with their stacks, you should be able to solve them using this method.

Cheers!
