The Underrated Eagle: Vendetta Yo-Yo Review

So we’ve been hearing loads of positive reviews about Duncan’s Screaming Eagle series, how the Mayhem proved to be a formidable player even though it sported a smaller bearing compared to the more popular large size bearings in most high end metals…or how the Diversion is great for 1A and 3A trick, as proven by players such as Kohta Watanabe of Duncan Crew Japan and Jason Kao from Taiwan. Even the Momentum and Hugo Z Hor have been receiving tonnes of praises for their performance in the high end metal category.

Duncans Vendetta, the lesser eagle?

Duncan's Vendetta, the "lesser" eagle?

So what bout the Vendetta? With so little talk surrounding the Vendetta, some might start to think that it isn’t as good a performer as the others of the SE range.

Our sales report…however…beg to differ…

Just like you, some of us have wondered whether or not the Vendetta was popular in demand, and had the impression that it wasn’t selling as well as the other Screaming Eagle series.

According to our sales report, however, it shows that the Vendetta has been selling much faster than the Mayhem for that matter!!! Trailing slightly behind the Momentum, the Vendetta comes second in our list of most sold Duncan SEs…how’s THAT for popularity???

With a V-Shaped profile, the Vendetta appeals visually to those who would prefer a yo-yo ith sharper edges as compared to a rounder profile

A separate website that we had looked up also found that the Vendetta scored a much higher appeal in terms of customer satisfaction as compared to the Mayhem and Momentum!!!

So…is the Vendetta really the “lesser” eagle, or is it the silent achiever? Time for a test run!!!

Out of the box, the Vendetta comes with Duncan Silicon Stickers, which were swapped for a single thick Dif-Pad by Dif-E-Yo ccording to Qingwen’s taste in play. Another popular setup would be to leave the pads on, and swap the bearing for a KK bearing instead.

Of course, if you do not want to spend extra cash on your yo-yo, you’ll be glad to know that the Vendetta performs just fine stock, you can also adjust the response by leaving both stickers on or removing one if you like.

Trick wise, the Vendetta handles string mounts easily, its V profile means that string catches are not a problem at all

With this setup, string tricks are smooth, with the Vendetta being able to handle multiple layers of string without slowing down much, we reckon that with a KK bearing, it should perform even better. Still, the Vendetta easily takes on almost anything we threw at it, and it performed with little effort.

One thing to take note with the Vendetta is that it does not sport a bead blasted surface, which means it’s not as good at doing grinds compared to the Mayhem and Momentum.

The Vendetta comes with a Satin finish to aid grinds a little

However, Duncan has decided to satinize the yo-yo so that it will help with grinds a little. This isn’t so much a problem with most of use who tested the yo-yo as if you really think about it, unless you are a grind-crazy trickster, you don’t really need to worry about this at all.

After spending a good hour with this yo-yo, we were done and decided to call it a day. The Vendetta has proven to be a really good yo-yo indeed, not one that would appeal to the mainstream, but perhaps, as seen in our sales figures, has a strong army of supporters willing to back this yo-yo up.

Plus, with a price tag of SGD$129.90, the Vendetta is also the cheapest of the Screaming Eagle line!!!

With all these factors put into consideration, it was pretty obvious to see why many favor the Vendetta as much as, or even more than the other Screaming Eagle series.

Funny, that would mean the Diversion would be one of the lower ones on the sales list. And thats pretty surprising to me since i personaly found it much more enjoyable then the momentum or mayhem.

Another thing i dont really get is….why do i come across soo much more mayhems then any other SE if it’s supposed to be 3rd on the list?? I’ve rare see any momentums and i’ve yet to find anyone carrying a vendatta i could try.

I would certainly love to try one though, when it first came out, the looks alone made me believe it plays awesome, but many people around me told me otherwise. How confusing.

    Hi Guys,

We didn’t film it cause we didn’t have a camera at that time, but you can check out Buko’s test of it here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfldaRrVF4s

As for the Diversion, we didn’t compare it cause it wasn’t released the same time as the other three yo-yos so their sales would not match the other three yo-yos.

With regards to the sales figure and not seeing many momentums and vendettas as compare to the Mayhem, you must understand that these purchases are not made by just mainstream players, but include underground players, as well as overseas purchases…so the most Mayhems you’d probably see around the shop actually belong to Hans, Colin, Qingwen and mine ;)

Brian, I used to have a Vendetta but I traded it away for a IT.
This yoyo definitely is not just a good-looker, but performs really well with a good throw. I used to hate it cause it woouldn’t spin as long as I wanted it to.
After getting better, this yoyo definitely will achieve what you want.
