FAQ
Q: Which yo-yo/brand should I start with?
A: That depends on what style do you want to play. We highly recommend you to start with the basic one-hand tricks such as rock the baby, around the world and gradually advance up to braintwister and split the atom. For such tricks, perhaps you could try Duncan’s Freehand, Freehand Zero or Ballistic, or Yoyojam’s Kickside, Speedmaker, Journey or Sunset Trajectory, or Yomega’s Raider. All of these yo-yos should be able to help you progress and learn. Do note that these yo-yos are not JUST beginner yo-yos.
Q: How to make my yo-yo sleep longer?
A: First thing first, PRACTICE. If that fails, practice some more.
Q: My yoyo cannot return even though I tug it real hard.
A: Perhaps the friction stickers have been worn out, or the bearing needs to be lubed. If it uses friction stickers, if they have been completely worn down, change the sticker. If it does not use stickers, then try to add a drop or 2 of a lubricant (Singer oil, key oil, Yoyojam lube, Yomega lube, etc). If that still does not work, drop us an e-mail and we’ll figure it out together.
Q: Why are there so many different types of yoyos?
A: Each yo-yo is unique in its own right. As yo-yos have evolved from the basic up and down play, each yo-yo now specializes in a specific division (One handed, Two handed, Offstring and Freehand). Get one yo-yo which you think looks and feels good, start from there and gradually choose the ones which you are comfortable with.
Q: Whats the difference between metal or plastic?
A: Most beginners would/should start out with the plastic variants as metals can tend to be quite pricey and more suited for advance play. However, do not underestimate plastic yo-yos. Many professionals still choose plastic over metal yo-yos. Metals have an edge over plastic yo-yos in the area of workmanship and finesse. Aesthetically, metal yo-yos tend to look cooler and be more appealing. However play wise, both plastic and metal yo-yos do not differ much and are quite comparable. DO NOT be mislead thinking that by using a metal yo-yo, you will instantly be a better yo-yo player.
Q: Which strings should I buy?
A: Honestly, with regards to Strings, you will have to try them out for yourself and see which one suits you better. It is really all up to your choice, tastes and preference.
Q: Which is the best, best or bestest yoyo?
A: The one that you are already playing with. It is not the yo-yo but more of the player that matters.
Q: What is the difference between response systems?
A: Basically, with regards to response systems, there are Stickers, Starburst, O-ring and Triads.
For Stickers, these tend to be a little more responsive and need to be changed quite often. People still like stickers as they provide smooth playing yo-yos while still maintaining tight wind ups.
For Starburst, these do not need to be replaced at all. However, starburst on yo-yos may wear down after much play.
For O-rings, these almost do not need to be replaced at all, ever! They last super long and provide good tight wind ups. O-rings can be replaced by the normal black rubber O-rings with flowable Silicone or Silicone O-rings.
For Triads, these are also know as negative Starburst response whereby there are holes around where the ball bearing sits, providing response for the yo-yo. It never needs to be replaced and is featured in a number of Offstring yo-yos.
Q: How do I make new tricks?
A: Keep playing, keep trying different things. If all else fails, make a few mistakes and viola!
Q: How many yo-yos should I have?
A: As many as you want and as little as you need.
Q: Tell me, will playing with yo-yos make me cool?
A: If cool is all you think about and want to be, then you are a real, sad person.
Q: Which yo-yo should I pick (this, this or this)?
A: Whichever one appeals to you because its the player, not the yo-yo.
Q: Please tell me how can I be as cool as him!
A: Sorry, I don’t think you or anyone can ever be.
